Sony is kicking off its marketing blitz for the PlayStation 5 video game system. It was disappointing that the PlayStation 4 didn't include a 4K Blu-ray drive, so we're glad to see Sony supporting the 4K disc format in the new console. Sony revealed images of the futuristic-looking console and an upgraded controller — along with various accessories.

To upgrade eligible PS4 disc titles to digital PS5 versions, players need a PS5 console with a disc drive. It was originally thought that Sony would announce the PS5 price and release date at a rumoured event on 9th September - 25 years to the day since the original PlayStation went on sale.

PlayStation 5 is the official name of Sony's next-generation console. This suggests that other PS5 faceplates, whether they are other colors like Black or game-specific for titles like Horizon Forbidden West, could be released by Sony post-launch. Epic Games' Tim Sweeney reassuring gamers this was how next-gen consoles would look in action felt like a subtle jab to Microsoft.

5) A PlayStation Plus Collection is coming that has over classic PS4 titles in that is playable on PS5. Most big-name retailers like GameStop and Best Buy offer preorder programs, usually for a down payment or percentage of the console's full price. PlayStation 5's price had been rumored to be upward of $500, so the fact one version is $399 is considered a win for Sony customers.

Before Sony ps5 preorder revealed the PS5's design, it unveiled the DualSense controller that will go with it. It keeps the same general layout as the DualShock gamepads Sony has used since the original PlayStation, but it's rounded, white, and more friendly-looking than previous controllers.
